I strive to work from a humanistic approach in which I actively aim to implement social justice frameworks, and trauma informed care practices. I view my role as collaborative and strengths-based to support families.
Clinical Social Worker
Amber knew that she wanted to become a social worker from an early age. In elementary school, her family was supported by a social worker while she was a patient at Shriners Children’s Hospital for the treatment of scoliosis. The social worker was very helpful and had a positive impact on her family during difficult times. During her time at Shriners, Amber had many opportunities to work with several wonderful providers. These experiences inspired her initial interest in the field of social work. After graduating high school, Amber worked in various childcare and nonprofit settings, which solidified her choice to become a clinical social worker.
Amber obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Children, Youth, and Family Studies from Portland State University where she also later earned a Masters of Social Work with a focus on medical and clinical social work within integrated behavioral health. She completed her graduate internships at Play Connections Autism Center and her advanced placements at The Children’s Clinic and Randall Children’s Hospital. For the past few years, Amber has been providing community mental health within elementary schools to support children with behavioral challenges and the impacts of childhood trauma.
Her special interests and training are in supporting families with IEP and 504 support, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), CBT, Collaborative Problem Solving, and helping children and youth manage anxiety and major life changes. Amber practices in our Portland office.
Amber is a true dog-lover. She and her partner rescued a Staffy named Maya 3 years ago. She is now 4-years old and is the sweetest dog. Amber loves to take Maya to the beach, on hiking and camping trips, and teach her new tricks. Maya's favorite activity is meeting new people, especially anyone that will stop and pet her. Maya brings much joy and laughter to Amber and her family.
Amber was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest and is an avid Oregon Duck fan! She loves everything that Oregon has to offer including hiking, kayaking, and camping. Amber believes Oregon is one of the most beautiful places to live.
Amber and her partner enjoy walking their dog, fixing up their recently purchased home, and cheering on their favorite sports teams, the Oregon Ducks and The Blazers. They have a total of 7 nieces and nephews. Being an aunt has greatly impacted her as a provider. It has opened her mind and perspective to a more strength-based approach while meeting a family’s needs with validation and exploration.
Amber loves to bake and cook. Her favorite is mastering French desserts. She enjoys checking out the latest in the Portland dining scene when she can. Amber loves to eat anything Thai and frequently dines at Departure in downtown. She is looking forward to joining the PANW team to support families, and developing relationships with other clinicians in the field.
