Shreya Sekaran-Heye

Pediatrician

D.O. FAAP

One of my favorite parts of being a pediatrician is partnering with parents as a team focused on helping their child thrive. It’s a privilege to guide families through growth and development, celebrating milestones while supporting children to reach their fullest potential. I believe in advocating for children and their parents by providing compassionate, evidence-based care that helps families feel informed, empowered, and confident in their healthcare decisions.

About me

Dr. Sekaran-Heye knew she wanted to become a doctor since she was five years old, inspired by the impact her own pediatrician had on her life. Her passion for pediatrics grew through years of working with children, from tutoring younger children and volunteering at Legacy Hospitals in high school, to serving as a Special Olympics coach during medical school.

As a former competitive swimmer, Dr. Sekaran-Heye developed an early appreciation for the role of nutrition in health and development, which led her to study Nutritional Biochemistry and Metabolism at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH. She earned her medical degree from Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine in Lebanon, OR. She then returned to the Midwest to complete her Pediatric Residency training at Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit, MI and practiced in South Central Michigan while her husband finished his surgery residency. Dr. Sekaran-Heye’s background in nutrition continues to shape her approach to pediatric care, and she is currently pursuing certification as a Lactation Counselor to better support families with breastfeeding and early infant nutrition. Dr. Sekaran-Heye cares for patients in our Tigard office.

Interests

Dr. Sekaran-Heye caught the travelling bug early on and strongly believes one of the best ways to experience a new city or culture is through food! She recently explored Italy and French Polynesia. Some of her all-time most memorable travel memories are taking a pasta-making class in Italy, visiting coffee farms in Hawaii, and learning how vanilla beans are harvested in French Polynesia. She and her husband are huge Top Chef fans, so they love exploring different cuisines and then attempting to recreate their favorite meals at home… with mixed results sometimes! She is especially excited to be back in a foodie city- you’ll see her scoping out new food cart pods and vineyards on the weekends!

Dr. Sekaran-Heye’s love of learning about the different communities and traditions all around the world has naturally expanded into an interest in international medicine and global healthcare for which she has had the opportunity to participate in Costa Rica, Honduras, and India. She looks forward to pursuing experiences in global health and international service in the future.

Growing up, if she wasn’t at swim practice or practicing the clarinet in her free time, you could always find Dr. Sekaran-Heye curled up in a cozy corner of the house reading a book! She loves all different genres of books whether it be classic fantasy series like The Hunger Games, to the Fourth Wing and Sarah J Maas universe, to even science fiction like Project Hail Mary. She is currently working towards her goal of 15 books per year!

Family

Dr. Sekaran-Heye and her parents emigrated from India to California when she was 6 years old, then moved to Oregon in 2003. She loved growing up in Beaverton where she graduated from high school before moving away for college. She met her husband in medical school where he was her anatomy lab partner. They moved to Michigan for residency and got married while finishing their training. During COVID, they started a board game collection, which has since evolved into an expansive collection of different family, strategy, and party games. Some of their favorites are Wavelength, Azul, Cascadia, Wingspan, and Chameleon!

Her love of travel and learning was shaped by the experiences she shared with her parents during childhood, and she is grateful to have found a husband who shares the same sense of adventure. They are thrilled to be returning to the PNW to be closer to family.
