Connie L. Evers MS, RDN, CSSD, LD
I focus on healthy family food habits and approach nutrition in a mindful, intuitive, flexible style. My goal is to translate current nutrition science into practical food-based advice. My personal philosophy is that there are many routes to healthy eating and I individualize my advice to meet the needs of my patients and their families. I firmly believe that food is one of the great enjoyments of life!
Connie grew up on a farm in Western Nebraska and long before it was considered cool, she ate locally, growing much of her own food on the farm or procuring from her neighbors. From a young age, she was interested in the role that food played in both health and sports performance.
Connie graduated with honors from the University of Nebraska and completed her dietetic internship and Master of Science degree in nutrition (emphasizing sports nutrition) from the University of Iowa. She is board certified as a sports dietitian. In 2013, she was recognized as the outstanding dietitian of the year from the Oregon Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Connie practices in both our Tigard and Portland office.
Connie is the author of How to Teach Nutrition to Kids, 4th ed., a book which is used in thousands of schools throughout the world as a framework for nutrition education. She also wrote the activity book Nutrition Fun with Brocc & Roll, 2nd ed. and the Disney children’s book, Good for You! Nutrition Book and Games. She is currently working on a new book which addresses healthy snacking for kids and teens.
One of the things Connie loves most about the Willamette Valley is the great growing season for gardening. She raises a variety of vegetables, herbs and fruit and enjoys the therapy benefits of gardening as much as the delicious, fresh food.
Connie loves to hike and before she suffered a knee injury a few years ago, she was a running fanatic. She has climbed Mt. Hood, run a marathon, run 6 Hood to Coast relays, completed hundreds of 5k and 10k races and recently made it to the top of The Incline in Manitou Springs, Colorado. In addition, she is currently getting back into cycling.
Connie has three great adult kids who are the love of her life! Raising children has added real-world perspective to the challenges families face raising healthy eaters.
Connie is a team nutritionist for the US Figure Skating Association. She has played in a handbell choir for over 20 years. She also plays the piano. Her “pets” include thousands of red wiggler worms who live in a worm factory. They eat her kitchen scraps and turn them into garden-rich compost. She enjoys hiking through Bull Mountain Park, her “secret urban forest,” a hidden gem nestled within the Tigard suburbs (the secret is out now!). As the only registered dietitian at PANW, Connie serves a variety of roles and enjoys seeing children from birth to college age. She especially enjoys teaching monthly infant and toddler feeding classes.
